Department

The Department of Zoology guarantees the bachelor’s degree programme in Biology and Ecology and the master’s degree programme in Zoology. The department’s staff also participate in teaching in both bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in all combinations of the teacher’s degrees in Biology, as well as in the fields of Hydrobiology, Ecology and Environmental Protection, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, and Biophysics. The department is also accredited to conduct doctoral studies, habilitation procedures, and professorial appointment procedures in the field of Zoology.

Research conducted by the department’s scientists focuses primarily on vertebrate biology, entomology, and applied hydrobiology. The Ornithological Laboratory carries out comprehensive research projects focused mainly on evolutionary biology and the behavioural ecology of birds. The scientists maintain extensive contacts with foreign universities.
