Master’s Degree Programme: Zoology

This follow-up programme deepens students’ knowledge in specialized zoological fields. The foundation of the programme is an in-depth study of the biodiversity of both invertebrates and vertebrates, with an emphasis on general evolutionary trends within individual groups, the emergence of evolutionary novelties, behavioural strategies, and ecological adaptations. The curriculum includes alternative hypotheses about phylogenetic relationships and comparisons of morphological and molecular approaches. The programme also focuses on animal ecology and zoogeography. Methodological courses are selected based on students’ individual focus areas and prepare them for the completion of their Master’s theses. These courses include statistical analysis methods, including work in the R environment, biostatistical techniques, experimental methods in molecular biology, and the application of GIS in biology. The individual focus of students’ studies is determined by the topic of their Master’s thesis and their affiliation with the department’s laboratories engaged in research activities. Participation in research groups allows students to interact intensively with other members of these groups. In this way, students become familiar with the processes involved in preparing publications for international journals and can contribute as co-authors to these publications.
